A diplomat at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan has been arrested on charges of spying for Islamabad.
Madhuri Gupta, second secretary in the press and information wing, is accused of leaking sensitive information to Pakistani authorities.
Home Secretary G.K. Pillai on Tuesday confirmed Gupta's arrest.
Gupta, 54, was arrested in Delhi four days ago. She was brought back from Pakistan on the pretext of preparations for the SAARC Summit.
Gupta is accused of passing strategic information to Pakistani agencies. She has allegedly been on the ISI's payroll for the last three years.
An FIR was lodged against Gupta by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. She has been booked under the Official Secrets Act.
Intelligence officials have questioned Gupta and will be probing the case. Gupta's call and travel details in India and abroad are under scanner. She had been kept under watch for the last six months.
Gupta is a Grade B Indian Foreign Service officer and rose through the ranks. She has been posted at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan since September 2007. A specialist interpreter in Urdu, she served in Delhi and Kuala Lumpur as well.
The authorities are now looking at the possible involvement of others at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan.
டெல்லி: நாட்டின் ரகசிய தகவல்களை பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு விற்று வந்த இந்திய பெண் தூதரக அதிகாரி கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
இஸ்லாமாபாத்தில் உள்ள இந்தியத் தூதரகத்தின் மீடியா பிரிவல் பணியாற்றி வந்த மாதுரி குப்தா (53) என்ற அந்த ஐபிஎஸ் அதிகாரி, பாகிஸ்தான் உளவுப் பிரிவினருக்கு கடந்த 2 வருடஙகளாகவே ரகசியங்களை வி்ற்று வந்துள்ளார். அவரை கண்காணித்து வந்த இந்திய உளவுப் பிரிவினர் இப்போது அவரை கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.
மேலும் இஸ்லாமாபாத் தூதரகத்தில் உள்ள இந்திய 'ரா' உளவுப் பிரிவு அதிகாரியான ஆர்.கே.ஷர்மா மீதும் சந்தேகம் எழுந்துள்ளதால் அவரிடமும் இந்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சக அதிகாரிகள் விசாரணை நடத்தியுள்ளனர்.
இது குறித்து உள்துறைச் செயலாளர் ஜி.கே. பிள்ளை கூறுகையில், இஸ்லாபாத்தில் உள்ள ரா பிரிவுத் தலைவரிடமிருந்து தகவல்களைப் பெற்று அதை பாகிஸ்தான் உளவுப் பிரிவுக்கு மாதுரி குப்தா வழங்கி வந்துள்ளார்.
அவர் எந்த வகையான தகவல்களை பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு அளித்தார் என்பது தெரியவில்லை. ஆனால், பாதுகாப்பு தொடர்பாக ரகசிய தகவல்களை பாகி்ஸ்தானுக்கு விற்று வந்திருக்கலாம் என்று தெரிகிறது.
30 ஆண்டுகள் இந்திய வெளியுறவுத்துறையில் பணியாற்பியுள்ள மாதுரி குப்தா, கோலாலம்பூர் உள்பட சில நாடுகளிலும் பணியில் இருந்துள்ளார்.
மாதுரி குப்தாவை கடந்த 2 வருடமாக கண்காணித்து வந்தனர். அவர் தவறு செய்தது உறுதியானதையடுத்து இரு நாட்களுக்கு முன் பணி நிமித்தமாக என்று கூறி டெல்லிககு வரவழைத்து இந்திய உளவுப் பிரிவினர் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.

அவரிடம் ரா, ஐபி மற்றும் டெல்லி உளவுப் பிரிவு போலீசார் விசாரணை நடத்தியபோது தனது குற்றத்தை ஒப்புக் கொண்டுவிட்டதாக உள்துறை வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.
இதையடுத்து நீதிமன்றத்தில் ரகசியமாக ஆஜர்படுத்தப்பட்டு அவர் சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். அவரை 5 நாட்கள் போலீஸ் காவலில் வைத்து விசாரி்க்க நீதிமன்றம் அனுமதி அளித்துள்ளது.
