Nearly one-fourth of the world’s population today is Muslim. The Muslim population is a diverse community of believers spanning the globe. Over fifty countries have Muslim-majority populations, while other groups of believers are clustered in minority communities on nearly every continent.
Although Islam is often associated with the Arab world and the Middle East, fewer than 15% of Muslims are Arab.

King orders aid for victims, Death toll in Jeddah flooding hits 83

JEDDAH – King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has ordered provision of aid to the victims of the heavy rain that fell on Jeddah Governorate.

This was announced by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, Thursday.

The SPA quoted him as saying that the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Defense Administration have been directed to disburse immediate financial aid among the victims.

The death toll from the floods caused by Wednesday’s torrential rains in Jeddah has risen to 83, according to a Civil Defense statement Thursday. Four others died in neighboring areas. Authorities identified 21 bodies and handed them over to their families. Most of the victims were trapped inside their submerged vehicles, the Civil Defense said.

Search operations for trapped victims continued throughout the day in the most affected areas, east of Jeddah, including Quwaizah, Muntazahat, Al-Adel, Al-Rawabi, Al-Sulimaniya, and Jamia. The traffic on the caved-in Haramain Highway was halted for the second day Thursday after fears of the total collapse of the Jamia (University) Bridge.

Jeddah Governor, Prince Misha’al Bin Majed, inspected the affected areas Thursday.

Prince Khaled called on the flood victims to report to the Jeddah Governor’s office or the Civil Defense Administration to receive the necessary aid.

The Civil Defense set up an office in Quwaizah to receive displaced people.

At least 52 displaced families were provided with shelter. “Displaced families have the choice of going to a hotel or a furnished apartment in the city at the expense of the government,” said Gen. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, Chief of the Jeddah Civil Defense.

The Dr. Abdulrahman Baksh Hospital in Quwaizah was evacuated and the 175 people trapped inside were rescued. Hospitalized patients were transferred to the other branches of the hospital in Sharfiah and Mina. King Abdul Aziz University Hospital was flooded which has made it difficult to receive more cases.

Jeddah appeared like a ghost town Thursday as its residents blamed the city’s poor water drainage infrastructure for the loss of life and damage to property.

In an interview with Saudi TV, Prince Khaled said that some unplanned districts of Jeddah were badly hit by the floods. Committees have been formed to ensure that roads are reopened and streets are cleared, he said.

He said that a report on all such unplanned areas would soon be referred to the King.

“We had already warned against the spread of such localities.”

The King, he added, had also ordered to deal with the situation and to develop those areas.

Around 1,500 houses in the small district of Abruq Al-Raghamah were flooded, with families taking refuge in upper floors and on roofs and over 3,000 vehicles were displaced by flood waters.

Wednesday’s storms dumped more than three inches of rain on the city, more than Jeddah would normally get in an entire year, leaving behind pools of stagnant water. The streets were still flooded in many areas Thursday.

Jeddah Mayoralty has deployed water tankers to pump the water out due to the lack of an efficient rainwater drainage system in the city.

Besides its tankers, the city has hired “private ones to clear the streets for smooth traffic as soon as possible,” said Hani Abu Ras, deputy mayor for services.

வியாழக்கிழமை காலை முதல் ஜெட்டாவில் பெரும் மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. இதனால் சாலைகள் அனைத்தும் வெள்ளக்காடாகியுள்ளன. பல்வேறு பகுதிகள் கடல் போல வெள்ளம் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

மேலும் ஜெட்டாவுக்கு வரும் சாலைகள் அனைத்திலும் வெள்ளக் காடாக காணப்படுவதால் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ஹஜ் யாத்ரீகர்கள் ஆங்காங்கு தவித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர்.

ஜெட்டாவில் ஒரு வருடத்தில் மொத்தமே 2.76 இன்ச் மழைதான் பெய்யும். ஆனால் அந்த அளவு மழை ஒரே நாளில் பெய்து தீர்த்து விட்டது. இதனால்தான் பெரும் வெள்ளக்காடாகியுள்ளது ஜெட்டா.

பெரும் மழைக்கு ஜெட்டாவில் 79பேரும், மெக்காவில் 4 பேரும் இறந்துள்ளனர். 1000 பேர் மழை, வெள்ளத்திலிருந்து மீட்கப்பட்டனர்.

பெரும் மழை, வெள்ளம் காரணமாக ஏராளமான வீடுகள் சேதமடைந்துள்ளன. நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கார்கள் அடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்டன. ஜெட்டா நகரமே ஸ்தம்பித்துப் போயுள்ளது.

நெடுஞ்சாலைகளிலும் ஜெட்டா நகர சாலைகளிலும் வெள்ளம் தேங்கிக் கிடப்பதால் போக்குவரத்து முற்றிலும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பல சாலைகள் சேதமடைந்துள்ளன. பாலங்கள், கட்டங்களும் சேதமடைந்துள்ளன.

புனித ஹஜ் யாத்திரைக்காக லட்சக்கணக்கான மக்கள் ஜெட்டாவில் குவிந்துள்ளனர். இவர்கள் அனைவரும் பெரும் சிரமத்திற்குள்ளாகியுள்ளனர்.

ஹரமெயின் நெடுஞ்சாலையில் உள்ள ஜாமியா பல்கலைக்கழக பாலம் சேதமடைந்துள்ளது. பாதி பாலம் உடைந்து விட்டது. இதையடுத்து இந்தப் பாலம் வழியாக போக்குவரத்து தடை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

ஜெட்டாவுக்கு கிழக்கில் உள்ள அல் ரகமா, அல் அஜவித், அல் சமீர், அல் தெளபீக் ஆகியவையும் மழை வெள்ளத்தால் ஜெட்டாவிடமிருந்து துண்டிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

மெக்கா, மெதீனா, ஜெட்டா ஆகிய நகரங்கள், மேற்கு மாகாண நகரங்கள் ஆகியவற்றில் சில மணி நேரம் மின்சாரமும் துண்டிக்கப்பட்டதால் மக்கள் பேரவதிக்குள்ளானார்கள்.

ஜெட்டாவில் வெள்ளத்தில் சிக்கியுள்ளவர்களை மீட்க 120 மீட்புப் படையினர் பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

மேலும் தெருக்களில் தேங்கியுள்ள தண்ணீரை வெளியேற்ற 130 தண்ணீர் லாரிகள் பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. 1000 ஊழியர்கள் இப்பணியில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர்.

லிபரான் கமிஷன் அறிக்கை தாக்கல்: சம்பந்தபட்ட 68 குற்றவாலிகள் மீதும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் வீரப்ப மொய்லி அறிவிப்பு.


1992ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 6ஆம் தேதி தகர்க்கப்பட்ட பாபர் மசூதி குறித்து விசாரணை நடத்திய நீதிபதி லிபரான் அளித்த அறிக்கை இன்று நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது.

பாபர் மசூதி இடிக்கப்பட்டது குறித்து விசாரணை நடத்திய நீதிபதி லிபரான் ஆணையம் அளித்த அறிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில், இச்சம்பவத்திற்கு 68 குற்றவாலிகள் சம்பந்தப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள் என்றும், அவர்கள் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என்றும் மத்திய அரசு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இந்த அறிக்கையின் மீது நடந்த விவாதங்களி்ல் எழுப்பப்பட்ட கேள்விகளுக்கு பதிலளித்த மத்திய சட்டத் துறை அமைச்சர் வீரப்ப மொய்லி, நீதிபதி லிபரான் ஆணையம் அளித்த அனைத்துப் பரிந்துரைகளையும் அரசு ஏற்கிறது என்றும், அவற்றின் மீது உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என்றும் கூறினார்.

“லிபரான் ஆணையத்தின் எந்தப் பரிந்துரையையும் நாங்கள் நிராகரிக்கவில்லை. அனைத்துப் பரிந்துரைகளும் ஏற்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அந்தப் பரிந்துரைகளின் மீது அரசு உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும்” என்று வீரப்ப மொய்லி கூறினார்.

இவ்வாறு கூறியது மட்டுமின்றி, “ விசாரணை ஆணையம் பரிந்துரைகளையும் தாண்டி அரசு செல்லும்” என்றும் வீரப்ப மொய்லி கூறினார்.

“பாபர் மசூதி இடிப்பு தொடர்பான உண்மைகளை விசாரணை ஆணையம் கண்டுபிடித்துள்ளது. அவைகள் மீது ஒவ்வொரு அமைச்சகமும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும். அந்த அடிப்படையில் தான் நடவடிக்கை தொடர்பான விவர அறிக்கை உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது” என்று கூறிய மொய்லி, “நடவடிக்கை அறிக்கையில் 68 பேர் பாபர் மசூதி இடிப்பிற்கு பொறுப்பாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர், அவர்கள் செய்த குற்றங்கள் என்ன என்பது குறித்தும் அறிக்கையில் தொகுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது, இவைகளின் மீது அரசு நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும்” என்று கூறினார்.

Full Liberhan Report

For the government, the Liberhan Report is a windfall.
The contents of the report indict the BJP's top leaders, and in doing so, have forced the Opposition to scatter just days after it presented a united front.
The government's new policy over sugarcane prices had seen every party from the Left to the Right protesting loudly. Even some of the government's allies like Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu's DMK joined in.

But the Liberhan Report has brought back sharp divisions. In the Rajya Sabah, as BJP MPs shouted "Jai Shri Ram," the Samajawadi Party's Amar Singh swung into action, attacking the BJP's SS Ahluwalia. It was a clear move by Amar Singh to play to his Muslim vote bank. The scuffle that followed shocked the House; all parties involved later apologized.

But there is no truce now. Rising prices and the 4000-crore corruption charges against former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda guarantee a rough winter session of Parliament. But even on these gigantic issues, the Left and others may not want to be on the same side as the BJP, in the wake of the Liberhan Report slamming the party for "leading the country to the brink of communal discord."

As for the BJP, the Liberhan Report isn't all bad. It gives the Sangh Parivaar, recently riddled with infighting, a much-needed cause to rally around. The fact that former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has been named in the report as one of 68 people culpable of creating commuinal discord means the BJP can challenge the report, and more importantly, galvanize its cadres. Vajpayee, is after all, still the party's greatest draw, in many ways.

It's in Uttar Pradesh, though, where political equations will change the most from the Liberhan Report. BJP sources believe the party's Hindutva credentials have been revived, and may help revive its fortunes here. The Samajwadi Party hopes to use the report to prove to its Muslim voters that it was right in divorcing Kalyan Singh, the man who was the BJP's chief minister in UP during the Babri Masjid demolition, and who shared a brief alliance with the Samjawadi Party this year.

கடந்த சனியன்று நடைபெற்ற ஊடகவிலாளர் சந்திப்பில் கலந்துகொண்டு பதிலளித்த வட-கொரியாத் தலைநகர் சுஊலிலுள்ள இஸ்லாமிய மைத்திய நிலைய முகாமையாளர் 'முனீர் அஹ்மத்' அவர்கள், 'வடகொரியாவிலுள்ள மஸ்ஜிதுகள் மற்றும் இஸ்லாமிய நிலையங்களின் எண்ணிக்கை மிகக் குறைவானதாகும். முஸ்லிம்கள் எதிர்நோக்கும் மிகமுக்கியமானப் பிரச்சினை இஸ்லாமியக் கல்லூரிகளில்லை என்பதேயாகும் என்றார்.

இதுதவிர, பிக்ஹ் மற்றம் ஹதீஸ் போன்ற துறைகளில் இஸ்லாமிய கிரந்தங்கள் கொரிய மொழியில் இல்லாமையும் மற்றொரு பிரச்சினையாகும். இதுவரையில் இவற்றில் எந்தவொரு நூலும் கொரிய மொழிக்கு பெயர்க்கப்படவில்லை என அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

இன்று ஐம்பதாயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் இஸ்லாம் குறித்த ஆய்வுகளை இந்நாட்டில் மேற்கொண்டு வருவதுடன், இவர்களில் பலர் படிப்படியாக இஸ்லாத்தைத் தழுவிவருவதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது என அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

வட-கொரிய ஊடகங்கள் இஸ்லாம் பற்றிய நல்லெண்ணத்தைக் கொண்டிருப்பதுடன், ஆஃப்கானிஸ்தான், பலஸ்தீன் மற்றும் ஈராக் போன்ற நாடுகளில் இடம்பெறும் ஆக்கிரமிப்புக் குறித்த தகவல்களை வழங்கிவருதும் குறிப்பிடத் தக்கது என அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

10-day International Islamic Conference from Fri. 30th Oct. 2009 to Sun. 8th Nov. 2009

Relevance: Peace, internal and external - on an ‘individual’ as well as a ‘worldwide collective’ level, is a must for realistic Global Unity and Effective Human Progress.
The conference will InshaAllah focus on presenting the proper understanding of “Islam” and its message of “peace” for the entire humanity in an effective and objective way as well as allay the misconceived fear and hatred towards Islam and Muslims worldwide. Peace TV can be received in more than 150 countries… in Asia, Middle East, Europe, North America, Africa and Australia. It, Alhamdulillah, reaches out to more than 50 million viewers worldwide.

மெக்காவில் மோனோரயில் திட்டம்

மெக்காவையும் மற்ற புனித இடங்களான மினா, அரஃபாத், முஜ்தலிபா இவற்றையும் இணைக்கும் மக்கா மோனோரயில் திட்டம் 6.5 பில்லியன் ரியால் செலவில் முழுவீச்சில் நடைபெற்று வருகிறது இத்திட்டத்தில் சுமார் 5000 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட சீன தொழிலாளர்கள் பொறியாளர்கள் மற்றும் டெக்னீசியன்கள் பணி புரிந்து வருகின்றனர்.

இத்திட்ட வேலைகள் 35 சதவீதம் முடிந்துவிட்ட நிலையில் அடுத்த வருடம் ஹஜ்ஜுக்கு முழு பயன்பாட்டிற்கு விடப்படும் என்று தெரிகிறது 18 கிலோ மீட்டர் நீளமுள்ள இந்த ரயில்பாதை மக்காவில் தொடங்கி புனித இடங்களின் வழியாக முஜ்தலிபா சென்றடையும் இந்த ரயிலின் மூலம் ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் சுமார் 72,000 பயணிகளை மெக்காவிலிருந்து புனித இடங்களுக்கு கொண்டு செல்லமுடியும் இதனால் சவூதி மற்றும் அரபு நாடுகளில் இருந்து புனித ஹஜ்ஜுக்காக தரை மார்க்கமாக மக்கா வரும் 53,000 பஸ்கள் மற்றும் வாகனங்களால் ஏற்படும் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் முற்றிலுமாக தவிர்க்கமுடியும் என்று சவூதி உயர்மட்ட ஹஜ் கமிட்டி தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இந்த ரயிலின் வேகமும் மக்கள் நெருக்கடியான இடங்களிலும் பாதுகாப்பானதாக இருக்கவும் ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது மேலும் மினாவில் உள்ள கூடாரங்களுக்கும் எந்த பாதிப்பும் ஏற்படாதவாறு அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. சைனாவை சேர்ந்த ஒப்பந்த நிறுவனம் அமைத்துள்ள கான்கிரீட்டினால் ஆன தொங்குபாலங்கள் மக்களுக்கு எந்த வித இடையூறுமின்றி பயணம் செய்ய ஏதுவாக இருக்கிறது. இதன் மூலம் ஹஜ் பயணிகள் மட்டுமன்றி உம்ரா செல்லும் பயணிகளும் மெக்காவில் வசிப்பவர்களும் இதனை உபயோகப்படுத்தி கொள்ளாலாம் என்றும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Monorail project to be 35% complete for Hajj in 2009

JEDDAH: Saudi authorities have indicated that 35 per cent of the $1.8bn Mecca monorail project will be completed in time for the 2009 Hajj pilgrimage.
About 12,000 workers are currently working on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in two years. However, the plan has been to provide limited capacity for pilgrims travelling to the holy city in 2009.
